Sue Shon, PhD is Assistant Professor of Critical + Cultural Studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Her research and teaching interests include critical race and ethnic studies, aesthetic theory, and diasporic literatures and visual cultures. She is currently working on a monograph, Racial Sense and the Making of Aesthetic Modernity, which tells the story of how race acquired a visual feel due to constraints in the language of modern human perception.

Sue's teaching extends her research into the classroom setting and also models interdisciplinary approaches to critical thinking, research inquiry, and curatorial and studio arts practices. She has taught courses in critical race and ethnic studies, literature, film studies, composition, and research methods at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, University of Southern Maine, New Mexico State University, New York Institute of Technology, and University of Washington.
